Production is underway for Art Deco Dreams: A Miami Beach Story — a new documentary uncovering the vibrant, lesser-known history of one of America’s most iconic cities. Miami Beach has always been more than just a getaway—it’s a dreamscape, a battleground, and a cultural beacon. It's a result of many checkered accidents.

Told by the People Who Lived It Directed by local historian and tour guide Damian Rudys and produced by preservation advocate Doyle Forrestal, the film weaves together:
Conversations with architects, planners, preservationists, historians, artists, and longtime residents
Stories and insights never shared publicly
Archival images and film stretching from the 1920s through today
Untold truths behind the scenes of city life
A deep dive into the 1970s–90s preservation battles that saved the Deco District from demolition
Fresh perspectives on familiar history
Whether you’re a lifelong Miamian, a design and architecture enthusiast, or simply enchanted by Miami Beach, Art Deco Dreams explores the unpredictable forces that shaped the accidental city.
Why This Story Matters Now? As Miami Beach undergoes rapid change and preservation faces renewed threats, there’s never been a more urgent time to revisit what makes this place unique—and what could vanish if we fail to protect it.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Miami Design Preservation League and next year’s Art Deco Weekend, this film is both a tribute and a call to safeguard the stories written into these streets.
Coming Soon The documentary is set for release in 2026, with screenings planned at film festivals, cultural venues, and historical gatherings across Florida and beyond. A first-look trailer will premiere later this year. Follow the journey and get exclusive behind-the-scenes updates at ArtDecoDreams.com and on Instagram: @miamidecotours
